If the viewer goes to the product site but decides to bookmark the site and ends up buying later, you don't make the commission. Is this correct? Please DO NOT REPLY to advertise your affiliate program.
Most affiliate programs have at least a 30-days cookie. This means that if the persons comes back to the site within 30 days and makes the purchase, you'll get the commission.
Soft programs even have up to 90-days cookie and I remember reading somewhere about a year long cookie.
You would most likely be able to find the duration of the cookie somewhere on the affiliate sign-up section of the program you're interested in.
Not always true with affiliate marketing. Tracking cookies can be used and last up to 3 months to provide reference for a company who referred a customer, however that is a question best asked to the company you wish to sell for.

There is no general answer here. That's where reading the terms and conditions or policies and proceedures comes in handy. Each affiliate program has their own rules and if you can't find either of these documents on the site, quit advertising for them and find something more legit.

Hi Dan,
Most affiliate programs use what's called a cookie. When you direct a person to the website you're promoting thru your affiliate link, a cookie is placed on their computer.
This cookie identifies you as the referrer.
So if they leave, or bookmark the website and come back later to buy, you DO get the commission.
That being said, there are three things that could take away your commission.
1. All cookies eventually expire…this varies from program to program.
2. If they go thru your affiliate link, leave and then come back thru another affiliate's affiliate link, your cookie will be replaced…and the second affiliate will get the commission.
3. If the person clears the cookies from their computer, which many people do from time to time.
The best way to assure you get the commission is to gather the person's email address when you're promoting to them…you can do so by offering them a free report of some kind that is related to the program you're promoting.
You can then promote to them at a later date via email…and send them to the merchant's website thru your affiliate link.
Good luck with your affiliate marketing efforts.
